Visitor Information
Visitors are welcome anytime at SMC. A smiling face can be just as powerful as rest in the healing process. At Saunders Medical Center, we believe in the power of kindness and compassion, combined with the importance of rest and recovery. Both are essential elements in helping our patients feel better, heal faster, and achieve overall well-being.
- Complimentary coffee is available in the Surgical Waiting Area, Hospital Gallery, and Cafe.
- Vending machines containing beverages and snacks are available in the following areas: Emergency Waiting Area and Café area.
- Children are permitted at the discretion of the nursing staff. They must be free from communicable disease and be closely supervised by an adult other than the patient. At any time, visitors may be asked to leave by nursing or medical staff for the healing and health of our patients.
- Outpatient Surgery - Visitors may stay with the patient in the Outpatient Surgery area while awaiting surgery, and are invited to stay in the Surgical Waiting Area during procedures.
- Saunders Medical Center cannot be responsible for personal items that are lost or stolen.
- Public restrooms are located near the main lobby. For the health and safety of our patients, please do not use restrooms located in patient rooms.
- In order to promote better health, Saunders Medical Center is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the SMC campus.
- Our facility is handicap accessible. If you need any special assistance, please don't hesitate to ask and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
- If entering after the clinic is closed, please come to the emergency entrance to visit.

Café Open from 8am - 1 pm with a salad bar and a variety of hot and cold options available anytime. Lunch served at 10 am. The Café is located through the corridor of the main lobby. Guest meals may be served in the patient's room, if desired.

Age-friendly health care is an urgent need. There are more than 46 million Americans age 65 and over, and that number is projected to double to more than 98 million by 2060.
Many older adults have more than one chronic disease and take multiple medications. Many individuals in this population of people live with uncertainty as they transition from living independently to reliance on others.
Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA). The goal of the initiative is to rapidly spread the 4Ms Framework to 20% of U.S. hospitals and medical practices by 2020.
It is part of the AHA’s commitment to improving the health of people at every life stage and in communities across the country.
As part of the Age-Friendly Health Systems Action movement, we are among the first health systems in the country to implement age-friendly health care.
The four essential elements of an Age-Friendly Health System are known as the 4Ms:
• What Matters Know and align care with each older adult's specific health outcome goals and care preferences including, but not limited to, end-of-life care, and across settings of care.
• Medication If medication is necessary, use Age-Friendly medication that do not interfere with What Matters to the older adult, Mobility, or Mentation across settings of care.
• Mentation Prevent, identify, treat, and manage dementia, depression, and delirium across settings of care.
• Mobility Ensure that older adults move safely every day in order to maintain function and do What Matters. -
