No Cause For Alarm
Mass Casualty Drill Scheduled in Wahoo
On Thursday, June 26 at 2:00 PM, local residents may notice emergency activity near the grain bins in Wahoo. This is part of a planned Emergency Preparedness Drill simulating a grain dust explosion.
The drill is a coordinated effort between Saunders Medical Center, emergency medical services (EMS) from across the county, and local law enforcement. The exercise will also include volunteers of all ages acting as simulated victims to help teams train in a realistic setting.
“These types of drills are necessary,” said Jenny Knapp, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Saunders Medical Center. “We hope we never face this type of incident, but we train for it so we’re ready to respond effectively if we do.”
The public is advised that this is only a drill and there is no threat to public safety. Community members are encouraged to show their support by helping spread awareness and allowing emergency crews to work efficiently during this training scenario.
