Job Overview

Provide professional nursing care for patients throughout the pre-operative, intra-operative, recovery, and immediate post-operative phases of care. The Surgery RN works closely with the surgical and specialty care teams to provide safe, compassionate, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures safely and accurately while following established radiology protocols and radiation sAssess patients, develop plans of care, and provide direct nursing care throughout the surgical experience.
  • Provide care in Pre-op, Surgery, PACU, and Specialty Clinic areas as assigned.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients throughout their care and assist with discharge planning.
  • Operate department equipment safely and effectively.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently in emergency situations.
  • Provide patient and family education and communicate important information with the healthcare team.
  • Supervise and support assistive and ancillary personnel as needed.
  • Maintain professional standards and follow nursing, safety, infection control, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Participate in education, committees, and activities that support quality patient care.

Qualificiations

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide compassionate care to those we serve and work with.
  • Ability to organize workload, prioritize patient needs, and make sound independent decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operating Room and/or PACU experience preferred.
  • ACLS and PALS certification required within the first year for applicable surgical positions.
  • Specialty clinic-only positions require BLS certification.
  • Saunders Medical Center provides education and cross-training as needed.
