Job Overview

Saunders Medical Center is seeking a Prior Authorization Specialist to help ensure patients receive timely access to needed healthcare services. This position works closely with insurance companies, providers, patients, and SMC staff to obtain and document required authorizations.

The Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations, verifying benefits, documenting authorization information, and communicating with insurance companies and healthcare teams. This position helps ensure required authorizations are completed accurately and in a timely manner before services are provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain prior authorizations and insurance benefit information for patient services.
• Communicate with insurance companies, providers, patients, and SMC staff regarding authorization requirements and status.
• Accurately document authorization information, approval dates, codes, and related details in the electronic medical record.
• Monitor authorization requirements and ensure approvals are in place before services are provided.
• Maintain organized records and prioritize urgent authorization requests to ensure timely service.
• Support a professional, collaborative, patient-focused environment while maintaining HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.

Qualificiations

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of experience in prior authorizations or insurance verification.
• Knowledge of health insurance plans and prior authorization processes.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Strong organizational, communication, typing, and computer skills.
• Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating directly with insurance companies.
• Experience working in a medical clinic or healthcare setting.
