Job Title LTC Education Coordinator
Reports To LTC Director of Nursing
Department Skilled & LTC Nursing _ Nursing Home
FLSA Status Exempt

Responsible for assessing and conducting the educational needs of Saunders Medical Center Long Term Care and complying with all state and federal education regulations.  Responsible for all new employee orientation and annual competencies.  This position will either perform the following duties or coordinate the performance of these duties through working with administration, LTC nursing, and other departments as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.

  • Coordinate LTC nursing staff annual competencies according to state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate continuing education in-services for all LTC nursing staff to ensure they remain current on new clinical procedures.
  • Coordinate at least 12 hours of nursing assistant in-services yearly according to state and federal regulations.
  • Post a notice of in-service training classes and encourage attendance.
  • Revise and conduct orientation programs for LTC nursing in accordance with SMC policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and conduct orientation programs in conjunction with hospital education specialist for job shadow, students, and volunteers.
  • Ensure all nursing training records are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure all nursing staff maintain certification in BLS. 
  • Track and ensure all LTC nursing licenses and medication aide and nursing assistant certifications are current.
  • Assist LTC Director of Nursing to educate all employees on new regulations and standards.
  • Assist the LTC Director of Nursing with auditing medical records for accurate documentation.
  • Participate in data collection and analysis for ongoing training needs.
  • Monitor the education department through process improvement projects.
  • Assist with scheduling staff as needed.
  • Be a part of the nurse on-call rotation with the nursing management staff.
  • Participate in various committees of the organization as appointed by the LTC Director of Nursing.
  • Assist with developing a comprehensive, realistic operating and capital budget that reflects the education department needs.
    Per invite by Director of Nursing, will participate in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
  • Practice the proper fire, safety and disaster procedures as set forth by SMC.
  • Participate in all quality, safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department.
  • Uphold confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times and report violations to the Privacy Officer.
  • Understand and comply with the requirements of the Saunders Medical Center’s Compliance Program, including, but not limited to the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, all Saunders Medical Center-wide policies for compliance, and compliance plans affecting specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Participate in all education and training programs regarding compliance as required by Saunders Medical Center policy and as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate personal traits of a high-level commitment, motivation and energy; team orientation; professionalism; trust; personal honesty and integrity; and a demonstration of placing others in a place of high value and treating them with dignity and respect.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Five years of healthcare experience with Long Term Care experience preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree related to health or education is preferred.
  • Possess basic computer skills with proficiencies in Word, Excel, Power Point, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and ability to be proficient in American Health Tech.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Current RN Nebraska license
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification
Language Skills

Must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions and possess positive skills in communication.  Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, visitors, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate at the level necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagram or schedule form.
