Patients will find a significant difference in the type of care and treatment that is received at SMC. Care is individualized to fit specific needs of each patient and is provided by a team of health care professionals. Patients learn about their condition and why various treatments and exercises are necessary. Team members include physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, registered dietitians, respiratory therapists, social workers, and pharmacists. The team works with the patient and their family to achieve maximum independence in the activities of daily living (ADL). Goals are determined by the patient, their family and the health care team. Patients are encouraged to work toward attaining goals set by them and the team. Focus is placed on independence as improvement takes place.
